Frequently Asked Questions

What is spearfishing?

Drift spearfishing is a technique where divers enter the water and move naturally with the current while hunting fish. Instead of swimming long distances, the ocean carries you along reefs, drop-offs, and open water — covering more ground efficiently and safely.

Do I need prior spearfishing experience?

Not necessarily. We offer trips for both beginners and experienced divers. If you’re new, we recommend having basic freediving or snorkeling experience. Our guides provide a full safety briefing and instruction before entering the water. No license needed.

Is this freediving or scuba?

Our standard trips are freediving only (no scuba tanks), following ethical and sustainable spearfishing practices. If you have special requests, contact us in advance.

What species can we expect to see?

Depending on season and conditions, you may encounter:

pelagic species, tuna, reef fish, mahi-mahi, snapper, grouper, dolphins and other marine life

Every day on the ocean is different — that’s part of the adventure.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing: swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water bottle. All core spearfishing gear is provided if needed.

Do you follow local regulations?

Absolutely. We strictly follow all local fishing laws, seasonal closures, and size limits to ensure sustainability and responsible harvesting.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. All participants are required to sign a Release of Liability Waiver before joining any trip.Spearfishing and ocean activities involve inherent risks, including changing weather conditions, currents, marine life encounters, and physical exertion. The waiver confirms that you understand these risks and agree to participate voluntarily. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign on your behalf.

Is Drift Spearfishing kid-friendly?

Yes — we welcome families! Children must be comfortable in the water and able to follow instructions at all times. We offer family-friendly outings focused on marine life viewing, snorkeling, and ocean education. For spearfishing trips, experience level and water confidence will be assessed to ensure everyone’s safety. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and a waiver must be signed on their behalf. If you’re planning a trip with kids, contact us in advance so we can recommend the best option for your family.

How many people are included in a charter?

This means you reserve the entire boat and guide for your group, whether you have four guests or five.If you have a smaller or larger group, contact us in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
